From utility sink splashes and heavy appliances to muddy boots and dusty sports equipment, your laundry room and mud room are bound to take a beating. Having floors that can resist water, wear and tear is crucial.
Luxury Flooring, Vivero Collection | U5010
We advise against installing hardwood floors in these spaces — both solid and engineered. Laminate also isn't ideal because standing water can cause surface damage and warping the same way wood does.
That said, there are still plenty of mud room and laundry room flooring options to choose from. Vinyl sheet is our top recommendation for a couple of reasons: it's a solid sheet, so has few (or no) seams and therefore less opportunity for water to seep through. Many of our vinyl sheet products also feature Diamond 10® Technology for superior scratch and stain resistance.
Also high on our list are luxury vinyl tile, rigid core and engineered tile. Vinyl tile can be a good flooring option if you need a quick DIY solution and have a smaller budget.
Though laundry and mud rooms by their nature are pretty much utilitarian, there's still no reason you can't prioritize looks. All of our flooring types that are fit for laundry room and mud room installation are also beautifully designed, and with so many wood-inspired, stone-inspired and alternative designs to choose from, you can extend your personal style into this functional space.
