Protecting our planet is synonymous with good business. We consider the reduction of energy, greenhouse gases (GHG), water and waste impacts across our value chain, from sourcing our raw materials to our own manufacturing and operations.
All Armstrong Flooring manufacturing plants maintain an Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001 which includes continuous environmental performance targets. Manufacturing plants located outside of the United States including plants in China and Australia are third party certified to ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. Additionally, over 50% of our raw materials suppliers by cost are ISO 14001 and/or ISO 9001 certified.
Our environmental targets for energy, GHG, water and waste are expressed on an a 'intensity' basis. This method enables us to benchmark and compare the environmental performance of both our products and manufacturing plants across the enterprise.
In 2007, Armstrong published sustainability goals. Our goals, with a base year of 2006, were to reduce energy, greenhouse gases and water by 10% by 2015. We achieved these goals and reset our goals to reduce energy, water and waste intensity by 25% by 2025 with 2014 as our baseline year. Below is information on the progress we’ve made in our global footprint.
