Environmental Excellence Award
Business winner in the 30th annual Environmental Excellence Awards sponsored by Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, as a result of environmental stewardship efforts at our Stillwater plant.
Environmental Leader and Energy Manager awarded Armstrong Flooring a Product of the Year honor for redesigning our Migrations and Striations Biobased Tile using life cycle assessment which resulted in a carbon footprint reduction during the first year and over the life of the product.
Green Builder Media, a leading media company in the North American building industry focused exclusively on green building and responsible growth, published the results of its annual Readers' Choice brand survey in the March/April 2020 issue of Green Builder Magazine. Among ten leading companies included in the Flooring category, Green Builder's readers ranked Armstrong Flooring first in sustainability.
Armstrong Flooring was selected as a winner of the 2020 Better Practice Award from the US Department of Energy. This award recognize DOE Better Plant Program partners for innovative and industry-leading accomplishments in implementing and promoting practices, principles and procedures of energy management.
Armstrong Flooring was selected as a GreenStep Award Honoree in the Promotion category by Floor Covering Weekly for its innovative flooring sample recycling pilot with the Mid-America IIDA Chapter.
Armstrong Flooring was awarded the GreenStep International Award by Floor Covering Weekly for its longtime sustainability practices at the Braeside, Australia sheet flooring plant. Braeside installed a rainwater harvesting and boiler reclamation system that reduced potable water in the plant by 40%. In addition, the plant celebrated five years without a Lost Time injury.
Armstrong Flooring’s Sustainability Manager, Amy Costello, was honored by Floor Covering Weekly with a GreenStep People Award as an outstanding advocate for sustainability. Costello drives sustainability actions both internally and externally — she established and now chairs the Armstrong Flooring Sustainability Steering Committee, and is on the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Board of Director’s Advisory Council, among many other responsibilities.
Armstrong Flooring received the GreenStep Promotion Award from Floor Covering Weekly for being a strong advocate for sustainable design education. Armstrong Flooring has been offering sustainability continuing education courses to design professionals for more than 10 years, and certified training to over 20,000 individuals throughout North America.
2016 Governor's Award for Leadership in Industrial Energy Efficiency
Armstrong Flooring won the Governor's Award for Leadership in Industrial Energy Efficiency for their achievements in reducing energy usage, implementing closed-loop recycling programs, manufacturing innovative products for more sustainable buildings and for their commitment to West Virginia communities.
2016 PROP Outstanding Achievement Award
Armstrong Flooring was honored with the 2016 Professional Recyclers of Pennsylvania (PROP) Outstanding Achievement Award. The honor is a direct result of the PA-based brand’s recently reimagined On&On™ Floor Recycling Program, in which flooring is recycled in a closed-loop, post-consumer stream
The PROP Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes companies for their commitment to recycling, waste reduction and the reuse of materials, all of which are integral components to the Armstrong Flooring On&On Floor Recycling Program.
Armstrong Flooring was commended by Floor Covering Weekly with a GreenStep Process Award for incorporating sustainability and circular design in our new Lancaster LVT plant. Internal scrap from the plant is recycled through a closed-loop system, which will result in zero process waste.
2016 Beautiful Environmental Excellence Award Finalist
Armstrong Flooring Stillwater, OK plant was a finalist in the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful Environmental Excellence Awards. In addition to exceeding their annual energy, water and waste reduction targets, our Stillwater, plant eliminated 70 tons of process waste.
Our South Gate plant was the only business honored with this award, which recognized our outstanding and innovative Floor Recycling Program and waste reduction efforts. South Gate’s achievements in 2014 include:
Recycling over 450 tons of reclaimed materials, including 50 tons from the state of California.
Eliminating 168 tons of monthly process waste from going to the landfill, making it a zero process waste facility.
The I-Set Installation System was recognized with a platinum Award for Design Excellence (ADEX). This revolutionary adhesive system, factory applied to Natural Creations Luxury Vinyl Tile installs about half the time of traditional methods, eliminates applied wet adhesives and associated fumes and provides durability and flexibility as the product can easily be moved from one location to another.
LEED-EB Platinum Certification - United States Green Building Council
Our corporate headquarters building in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is LEED-EB Platinum certified. In 2007, this was the first building outside of California to achieve the highest certification offered. In 2014, this building was the first building in Pennsylvania to be re-certified LEED Platinum.
2013 - The Infinity Arrow Award - California Product Stewardship Council
We received the California Product Stewardship Council's Infinity Arrow Award for our floor recycling program, which is the first of its kind to recycle both installed Armstrong and competitive VCT flooring products.
The Center for Health Design, Healthcare Design Conference, and Contract magazine presented a 2012 Nightingale Award to Armstrong Commercial Flooring bio-flooring, Striations BBT. The award recognizes the best industry products for the built healthcare environment.
2011 Waste Reduction Award - California Department of Resources
Our South Gate flooring plant was named a 2011 Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) winner by the California Department of Resources, Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle). 2011 marks the seventh year that Armstrong Flooring won this award.
In 2010, the plant was able to reduce waste generation by 2,248 tons (4.5 million pounds). This was done through improvement projects using Lean systems methodologies, creating a Sustainability Team to focus on the 3Rs, and with input and support from all plant employees.

We received a 2010 Australian Business Award for Environmental Sustainability, a national Greenhouse Challenge Plus awards program that recognizes organizations that demonstrate leadership and commitment to the enhancement, preservation and protection of the environment. Achievements included:
• A 34.5% reduction in CO2 emissions since the year 2000.
• 47% drop in potable water used since 2005.
• Waste sent to landfill was 3% of purchased material, reduced from 6.1% in
2005.
