Armstrong Flooring Wins Four 2021 GOOD DESIGN® Awards for Design Excellence
Exchange™ Luxury Flooring, Theorem™ Luxury Flooring, Empower™ Rigid Core, and Rest & Refuge™ Rigid Core earn GOOD DESIGN® awards.
LANCASTER, Pa. (December 22, 2021) – Armstrong Flooring is proud to announce that four products — Exchange™ Luxury Flooring, Theorem™ Luxury Flooring, Empower™ Rigid Core, and Rest & Refuge™ Rigid Core — were awarded the prestigious GOOD DESIGN 2020 Award.
Honored for quality design of the highest form, function and aesthetic, these awards recognize products across multiple flooring types (LVT and rigid core), as well as on both the commercial and residential sides of the business. Each product features Diamond 10® Technology, which offers category-leading scratch, stain, and scuff resistance.
“Design, performance and innovation are essential priorities of the Armstrong Flooring brand and we are honored to be recognized again by GOOD DESIGN,” said David Thoresen, Senior Vice President of Product Innovation at Armstrong Flooring. “To have four products recognized, several of which have won numerous awards this year, is a great reflection of the company’s investment into our products and is a testament to our outstanding Design Team.”
In November and December, the 71st GOOD DESIGN jury convened to select over 1,100 product designs and graphics from over 50 nations worthy of the GOOD DESIGN Award for their Design Excellence. Founded in Chicago in 1950 by Eero Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames, GOOD DESIGN remains the oldest and the world’s most recognized program for design excellence worldwide.
About Exchange™ Luxury Flooring
Exchange was created to invigorate and inspire with soft pastels and rich, saturated tones that complement a visual texture that adds depth and interest. The collection includes two distinct, yet compatible designs. System Gradient features a subtle ombre effect across a 6 in. x 36 in. plank in a soft color palette. Also available in a 6 in. x 36 in. plank, Static offers consistent saturation of color in a variety of neutrals and bright pops of color. The durability provided by the wear layer and Diamond 10 Technology extend the life of the product while the thinner structure, which requires less raw materials and energy to produce, results in a product with a 31% lower carbon footprint over our 3.2 mm glue-down LVT — a fact documented in the third-party certified EPD for Exchange. Exchange is an excellent example of Armstrong Flooring’s transition to be more vertically integrated, producing a large majority of our product components in-house, which differs from much of the industry.
About Theorem™ Luxury Flooring
Theorem includes three unique designs — Alchemy, Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 — representing a universal language, a nod to how we communicate with geometric symbols to exchange information — connecting art, science and technology. Available in a 6 in. x 36 in. plank, Alchemy was carefully formulated to strike a harmony between pattern and contrasting color, ranging from brights to rich, dark shades. Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 are a play on scale, featuring a unique pattern to inspire joy and productivity for dynamic learning. The durability provided by the wear layer and Diamond 10 Technology extend the life of the product while the thinner structure, which requires less raw materials and energy to produce, results in a product with a 31% lower carbon footprint over our 3.2 mm glue-down LVT — a fact documented in the third-party certified EPD for Theorem.
About Empower™ Rigid Core
Empower Rigid Core flooring was built using our new and innovative Reinforced Mineral Core (RMC) to provide the best available performance. This new core outperforms traditional rigid core products in both indent and stability while remaining 100% waterproof, and our exclusive Diamond 10 ® Technology coating provides best-in-class scratch and stain protection to allow maximum flexibility when choosing residential resilient flooring.
About Rest & Refuge™ Rigid Core
Rest & Refuge™ offers innovative and thoughtful design, exclusively for the Hospitality segment. With an ultra-dense core providing impressive dent resistance, a top-down 100% waterproof structure, and an attached pad for best-in-class acoustic performance that enables quick installation with no acclimation in most spaces, Rest & Refuge is the ultimate welcome package. It features a 20 mil wear layer, and is available in 6.5 mm x 9 in. x 60 in. planks.
