Lancaster, Pa., July 28, 2016 – At Armstrong Flooring, the lifecycle of its products extends far beyond installation. A global leader in the design and manufacture of flooring solutions, the company recently rebranded its On&On™ Floor Recycling Program. This ongoing recycling effort has already diverted millions of pounds of post-consumer flooring from landfills, thanks in part to the efforts of its industry partners. One of these partners, Linron Company, has been recognized by Armstrong Flooring for going above and beyond, and has been named the “2015 Flooring Recycler of the Year.”
The honor, which was previously awarded to Target (2012) and Kroger (2013 & 2014), recognizes organizations that have made significant environmental contributions by recycling resilient flooring materials during renovation projects. This effort results in a reduction in landfill materials, transportation, and energy. Linron Company, the nation’s leading national account distributor for retail chain stores, has successfully recycled over 16 million pounds of vinyl composition tile (VCT) through the Armstrong Flooring On&On Floor Recycling Program.
“Linron’s commitment to environmental sustainability is demonstrated by its recent reclamation efforts. The company is receiving our award because they recycled an incredible amount of material, which directly impacts the environment and reduces the amount of commercial flooring entering our nation’s landfills,” said Amy Costello, sustainability manager at Armstrong Flooring. “They are an ideal industry partner,” she added.
“It is honor to accept this award and be able to work so closely with Armstrong,” said Linda Krienke, Executive Vice President/Owner at Linron. “Through Armstrong’s recycle program we are able to have continued success by achieving our goal of specializing in customer satisfaction. We are able to keep our customers happy by giving back to the environment through the recycle program.”
New Name, Same Commitment to Environmental Stewardship
The On&On Floor Recycling Program may have a new name, but this ongoing program has offered commercial building owners and contractors an alternative to traditional disposal and a flexible, end-of-life recycling solution for vinyl flooring products since 2009. What began as a recycling program for VCT has expanded into a comprehensive program that includes Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) and other vinyl flooring products. As LVT experiences continued growth in North America, this innovative product’s lifecycle becomes increasingly important, and Armstrong® has committed to creating and perpetuating a simple, rewarding recycling option.
Eligible flooring is recycled in a closed-loop, post-consumer stream with reclaimed material incorporated into new flooring products. Regional recycling facilities in California, Illinois, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania handle the reclamation process, which includes both Armstrong products and qualifying competitive flooring products from demolition and renovation projects.
