Armstrong® Commercial Flooring Wins in 2014 Starnet® Design Awards

Lancaster, Pa., April 25, 2014 – Armstrong Commercial Flooring was specified in 40 of the 146 flooring projects submitted in this year’s 2014 Starnet Design Awards for commercial spaces.

Armstrong is always well represented in the competition. The entries are submitted by the flooring professionals who manage the installations and are judged by commercial interior design professionals. This year’s competition was no different, with projects submitted in Healthcare, Corporate, Education, and Hospitality/Public Space categories.

Gold Winner – Children’s Hospital of Orange County, CA

The most celebrated Armstrong project, Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), captured Gold in the People's Choice and Silver for Unique Installation Challenge. The flooring renovation for CHOC was designed by FKP Architects of Houston, TX and installed by Starnet Member Universal Metro of Santa Fe, CA.

Armstrong flooring products were used to create a series of six colorful floor murals. FKP breathed new energy into the corridors and elevator lobbies of the CHOC tower with design themes ranging from fossils to gardens to a coral reef. Designers selected 35 coordinating Armstrong colors from the full range of high-performance options within the ColorArt Medintone Sheet, ColorArt Medley Sheet and DecoArt Possibilities Petit Sheet collections.

Armstrong Commercial Flooring was also featured in the following award-winning designs:

Salve Regina Miley Hall Renovations, Newport, RI – Starnet Member, Ruggieri Brothers won Bronze in the Unique Installation Challenge. Conner Architecture worked with Ruggieri Brothers to transform a plank-tabled cafeteria into an open and inviting dining space with a modern feel. Armstrong vinyl composition tile (VCT) was used in key areas for durability.

Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc., Dallas and Fort Worth Offices, TX – Silver winner in the Environmental Achievement category, Carpet Services, Inc. collaborated with Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. to create an open workplace environment. The matching Dallas and Fort Worth offices are designed to meet LEED® Silver criteria and feature Armstrong LinoArt Marmorette Linoleum.
