As Australia's peak national non-government cancer control1 organisation, Cancer Council Australia advises the Australian Government and other bodies on practices and policies to help prevent, detect and treat cancer. We also advocate for the rights of cancer patients for best treatment and supportive care. Cancer Councils organise events, receive donations and bequests and work with our corporate partners to raise money to support our cancer control activities. Cancer Councils are the leading independent funders of cancer research in Australia. In 2016, research grants through Cancer Councils totaled more than $65.5 million. Cancer Councils directly funded $43.4 million, with a further $22.1 million contributed by our research funding partners.
