The John J. Cox Student Center provides space for the social, recreational, extracurricular, and cultural programs on the University of Bridgeport‘s 56-acre campus. Home to a bowling alley, radio station, large private dining room and numerous offices, meeting rooms and lounges, this prominent building is a hub for the activities of some 5,000 students.
In 2009, local designers in Bridgeport received a $23.6 million contract for 15 campus-wide projects, including interior design services for the Cox Student Center, as it’s commonly called. In the renovation of the private dining room, Armstrong’s Premium Excelon Raffia VCT premium tile in the new 12" x 24" format solved the challenge of making a large, institutional-looking space appear more inviting for university ceremonies and celebrations.
The Premium Excelon Raffia VCT Solution
Premium Excelon Raffia VCT’s long, rectangular format fit beautifully in the proportions of the dining room, which has a capacity to seat 400. The unique tile size also allowed for distinctive patterning in the flooring layout. Designers selected bright colors mixed with light neutrals from Premium Excelon Raffia VCT’s versatile color palette to complete the design of a highly appealing space for students and guests.
Premium Excelon Raffia VCT’s through-pattern construction hides normal wear and tear, making scuffs, scrapes, and traffic wear virtually undetectable. Low VOC emissions also make this premium VCT an ideal choice for large spaces.
